NYC Wants to Ban Soda from Restaurants


New York City is considering to ban large sugary drinks in restaurants, sports arenas and theaters.

The much-discussed proposal would make it illegal for restaurants, movie theatres, sports arenas and stadiums in the city to sell sugar-sweetened beverages larger than 16 ounces. The ban would not apply to grocery stores or bodegas, US News reports.

While is issue is being decided on in court, a new study shows that the ban would likely be effective.

“Our study shows that the soda ban would not hit the poor people, but rather overweight children and adults,” said Dr. Claire Wang, a lead author of the report through the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University,
